Apple Aims for Bezel-less iPhone with OLED Suppliers, Faces Technical Hurdles

Apple is reportedly asking its OLED suppliers, Samsung Display and LG Display, to develop OLED panels without any bezels. Initially, Apple wants to reduce the bezels on this year's iPhone 15 Pro models, with the long-term goal of adopting a full display without a camera cutout and with the thinnest possible bezel. However, there are several obstacles in achieving this, including the thickness of the outer film layer for an under-display camera, the thin-film encapsulation that protects the OLED from moisture and oxygen, and the difficulty of bending screen circuits in the bottom bezel due to Apple's preference for a flat display.
